The new product of our development is the UTCU camera. We integrated here the license plate recognition system into the camera. This way an easy to use unit was developed. Here you have the camera and the IPC in one. All you need is the UTCU unit and the laptop to catch speeders and wanted vehicles. As it can detect license plates effectively, UTCU is also suitable for entry systems.

The UTCU unit filters the information on its own and transmits only the data needed, for example the license number and the image of the car. The UTCU unit contains two cameras. One of them records the license plate, the other one – the overview camera - takes a picture of the whole vehicle.

The UTCU unit is easy to install: you only need to connect two cables (to connect the unit with the power supply and with the Ethernet) and your unit immediately functions.

With UTCU a sophisticated picture processing is possible because the HEXIUM license plate recognition software has its own software trigger. Therefore it does not need inductive loops (for example built-in loops on the street) to trigger the algorithms. This makes using UTCU cheaper and simpler than many other solutions. Of course it is also able to use hardware trigger input.

The efficiency of the recognition (at a maximum speed of 200 km/h) is better than 95% by day and better than 92% by night. The UTCU unit has a TCP/IP connection. This allows the camera to be in a bigger distance from the central PC.

The embedded processing unit does not contain moving parts. This reduces the possibility of malfunctioning.

With the embedded flash memory unit you can temporarily store the images.

The primary goal of the UTCU unit is license plate recognition. But the UTCU unit is also able to make a rough estimation of the speed of the vehicle, if the speed of the vehicle is under 200 km/h. When a vehicle passes through the field of view of the UTCU, several pictures are taken. So the calculation of the speed is based on the movement of the vehicle.

EXACT SPEED MEASUREMENT WITH UTCU UNITS

If you need an exact speed measurement with UTCU units, you should make a section control. To this, you need two UTCU units, both of them equipped with GPS. The two units have to be installed at least at one kilometer distance from each other on the highway. In this case the error of the speed measurement is under 1%.

The two UTCU units have GPS-based time synchronization and WLAN communication with directed antennas. When a vehicle passes the section, both UTCU units record it. They send the images to the server. The forwarded images contain the recognized license plate, a time stamp, the ID of the UTCU device and further data (for example the coordinates of the GPS). Based on these data, the server can easily calculate the average speed of the vehicle.

For the UTCU unit works with an infrared flash, you can reach a good recognition rate of high speed vehicles even at difficult light conditions. As the infrared flash is invisible for them, the speeders do not notice being measured. They do not slow down at the measurement.

With UTCU you have both the license plate recognition and an exact speed measurement at the same time.

Notwithstanding the excellent efficiency of UTCU intelligent camera unit by speed measurement, it is mainly used for security purposes and for traffic control. With the help of the data coming from the UTCU device you can monitor the moving of certain vehicles through defined routes.
